Filling the Gaps: How to translate research findings in products that help communities become more resilient?
During the inaugural evGTM constitutive meeting in Rome, we agreed to build a “critical mass” around the theme of tsunami risk and initiate discussions on the development of future GTM Risk Products. We recognised the need to engage with leading experts in the field and begin brainstorming the key aspects — what the products should address, when they should be developed, and how they should be implemented. Our initial focus will be on setting clear priorities. This initiative is expected to have strong synergy with the Risk Topic Group of EPOS TCS Tsunami.
The objectives:
- Define priority areas within the broader tsunami risk theme
- Develop a roadmap for the first generation of GTM risk products
- Establish workflows, standards, and strategies to support global product coverage
- Foster collaboration with existing global Disaster Risk Reduction initiatives (e.g., GEM, GAR, DRKMC Knowledge Hub)
These objectives will be pursued through a co-design process with stakeholders to ensure relevance, inclusivity, and shared ownership.
Potential Priority areas:

Exposure to Tsunami Risk
We need improved understanding of physical and human exposure and risk to tsunami inundation.
Physical Vulnerability to Tsunami Risk
Limitations in present day physical vulnerability models limits risk understanding.
Social Vulnerability
We lack understanding of the social impact and capacity for understanding risk- this will affect how effective mitigation measures will be.
Impact on supply chains and lifelines
We need a better understanding of cascading impacts of tsunamis and societal resilience.
